How is the procedure done?
Topical anaesthetics are applied one hour prior to the treatment. A sterile and disposable cartridge containing precision medical grade micro-needles is attached to the tip of the SkinPen. A thin layer of topical serum is applied to your skin and the depth of needles that is dialled in is determined by the area being treated and your skin type. The process creates thousands of precise micro-injuries in the dermis to a depth of .025 mm to 2 mm. This triggers new collagen synthesis without causing new scar tissue formation. There will be 3 passes over the area being treated in 3 different directions. Your skin will respond with tiny pinpoint bleeding. The more aggressive the treatment, the more bleeding and the more downtime.

The unique design of the SkinPen allows for individualized settings which makes the treatment amazingly comfortable for most patients. You may feel vibrations from the SkinPen.
How long does the procedure take?
After the I hour with topical anaesthetic, the procedure takes approximately 30 minutes depending of the size of the area treated and the severity of the damage on the skin.

Day 1: On the next day, you may cleanse your skin as usual and apply RESCUE and Allumier MD SPF40 or an approved SPF30 or greater sunscreen.
-
Days 2-7: Within two (2) days following your microneedling procedure, you will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer. Follow the instructions given to you by your medical professional. Days later, your skin will start shedding. These are skin layers that would regularly be shed a week later, but the microneedling brings this skin to the surface sooner. During this temporary process, your skin will shed and be dry. You may use your regular skincare products once your skin is not irritated.
-
Days 7+: A week after the microneedling procedure, most patients notice that their skin is smoother and more radiant. Continue with sun protection every day and reapply every 2 hours if outdoors.

Keep in mind dermal collagen remodelling takes place over time, it is not realistic to expect damage that has occurred over an extended period to disappear immediately. You may not see the final result until up to 6 months following your final session.
How many treatments will I need?
It is recommended to have 3 treatments one 4-6 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, and acne scars, it is recommended to received 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.
